INFORMATION FOR PEOPLE SELECTED IN KINPOE
People who've been offered admission in KINPOE! Here are a few things you should be familiar with:
Karachi Institute of Power Engineering is affiliated to PIEAS. It has 3 programs.
-MS Nuclear Power Engineering (2yrs)
-Post Graduate Training Program (1yr)
-Post Diploma Training Program (1yr)
If you've been offered admission in MS at KINPOE you'll be joining the MSNPE class no matter what your basic field is.
You'll have to pass a zero semester (1.5 minths) which has the following courses:
Introduction to Nuclear Power
Computing Fundamentals
Technical Writing
Applied Mathematics
Problem Solving Skills
Marks distribution is as follows:
Midterm 30%
Finals 70%
If you fail to score the minimum GPA required to pass the zero semester (which is 2.67), you cannot continue your MS program.
All the documents available on PIEAS website are for folks getting admission in PIEAS. You have to wait until your initial security clearance process is completed (which will be in December most probably, could be late). Once you've been cleared, an offer letter with all the required documents will be posted to the address you mentioned while applying for the fellowship. You will also get an email with all those documents attached. So, if you don't get the post, keep checking your emails.
Documents include:
-Offer letter
-Deed
-Medical Letter
-Character Certificate Draft
-Map to get to KINPOE Hostels
Get your deed on the stamp paper, and get it signed by Class-I magistrate.
Medical letter will be addressed to a particular PAEC hospital. Report there and complete the process ASAP. If you're unable to get the medical certificate by the joining date, you have two options:
-Complete the process and join the classes in KINPOE a little late.
-Abort the medical process and join the KINPOE, get the medical certificate from KIRAN hospital (Karachi)
You can choose either of the above options but if you choose latter, be aware that KIRAN hospital will not accept any of the test results of your previous medical procedure, So that money's gone.
There are 5 semesters after zero (4 regular and 1 for thesis project ).
In a regular semester you have to score a minimum of 2.67 GPA. If you are failed to do so you are on probation. If you get less than 2.67 in two consecutive semesters, you'll be dropped from the course and fellowship will be terminated.
KINPOE hostels are on a 30 minutes drive from the campus. A bus will take you from hostels at 8AM and drop back whenever your classes are finished. If you miss the bus, the only option you have is to get a lift from someone as their is no local transport on the route.
Hostel mess submits a security of about 6500 on your first day. It provides breakfast and dinner only. You may have the lunch at the campus canteen or dhabbas near the hostel.
Postings of the KINPOE fellows follow different trends every year but there are bright chances that you get posted at K2, K3 (power plants under construction at Karachi).
